he state corporation Rosatom intends to submit an application to the regulatory authorities of the Great Britain and the USA for the certification of the reactor technology VVER, the vice president of ZAO Rusatom Overseas Jukka Laaksonen.
In particular, it is planned ‘within the following five years’ to go through the standard procedure of the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) and “obtain all the necessary permissions for constructing VVER in the United Kingdom”, Laaksonen pointed out in the course of his speech at the Atomexpo-2012 forum. According to him, ‘in a more distant perspective’ it has been planned to submit an application for the certification of the design of VVER reactor to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of the USA.
Accroding to the estimate by Rusatom Overseas, the approval of the British amd American supervisory bodies will help promote VVER at the foreign market, says Laaksonen. He did not specify, which construction of the VVER reactor line is planed to be certified in the Great Britain and the USA.
Earlier the representatives of Rosatom confirmed the fact of considering the possibility of participation in the nuclear program of Great Britain. At present the to reactor technologies: AR 1000 developed by Westinghouse Electric and EPR developed by AREVA are going through the certification procedure in the regulatory bodies of the Great Britain, which takes approximately four years. ZAO Rusatom Overseas, the subsidiary of Rosatom, was created with the aim of promoting the Russian nuclear technologies abroad.
