The Austrian company Activ Solar put another milestone in the history of solar energy. The company accomplished the construction and embarked on the process of putting into operation the solar power station “Omao Solar” with the capacity of 20 MW in the Sakskiy district of the Crimea. “Omao Solar” is the first stage of the “Okhotnikovo” project – one of the largest PV-installations in the world. Earlier Activ Solar successfully completed putting into operation 7,5 MW solar station in the village of Rodnikovoe (the Crimea, Simferopol district).
Kaveh Ertefai, the CEO of Activ Solar explains his company’s choice for the place of project realization: “The solar irradiation level in the south of Ukraine is comparable to that in the north of Italy, which has one of the largest numbers of solar installations in the world. Besides, the Crimean peninsula has always suffered from energy deficit. That is why the projects like ours are meant to bring the Crimea very important ecological and economic benefits”.
“Omao Solar” consists of about 90000 crystalline silicon PV modules covering the area of 40 hectares. The solar plant is estmated to produce 25000 MWh of ‘clean energy’ a year, which is quite enough to satisfy the needs of about 5000 private households and will allow to reduce the level of carbon dioxide emissions by 20000 tons a year.
At present Activ Solar is engaged in constructing the second stage of ‘Okhotnikovo’ project, which gives jobs to 400 people.
‘The lessons we have learnt while constructing the first solar station in Ukraine provided a solid basis for the effective acceleration of construction works. At present our professional team installs an average of 5000 modules a day, which is over 1 MW capacity’ – says Kaveh Ertefai.
Activ Solar is going to present the progress in its projects’ implementation during the international PV-exhibition Intersolar (Munich) in Room A5, exposition booth # 185.
