According to the office of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage (Rosprirodnadzor) in Chelyabinsk they received a message from a private citizen reporting the contamination of the Miass river with the oil products in the vicinity of the Leningradskiy bridge along the Victory Avenue. In this connection today the experts of the governmental agency in cooperation with the representatives of the Centre of Laboratory Analysis and Technical Metrology in the Ural federal district carried out a patrol inspection of the river bed within the boundaries of Chelyabinsk.
“The most part of the river surface is covered with oil film, on the river banks and on the vegetation there are oil spills. The oil spills has been traced in the Miass river starting from the temporary bridge in Kashirin Brothers street to the bridge near the traffic police checkpoint in the Metallurgy district of Chelyabinsk”, the representative of the Rosprirodnadzor says.
As a result of the patrol inspection the samples of river water has been collected with the aim of analyzing them for oil products content.
The participants of the patrol inspection stated that the most probable source of contaminating the river Miass with oil products is the river Igumenka, to which the storm sewage from all over the city is coming.
The administrative offence case has already been initiated upon this incident. The experts are to find out the person responsible for the river contamination and estimate the damages inflicted on the river Miass.
