Construction of Russia’s Largest Biogas Plant Starts In Mordovia

BioGazEnergoStroy started the construction of a biogas plant in the village Romodanovsky (Mordovia, near Saransk). The power plant will have the capacity of 4.4 MW, so far it is the largest project in the sphere of bioenergy in Russia.

As a raw material the plant will use biowaste of the cattle, and beet pulp. The main suppliers of raw materials are the agricultural production co-operative «Romodanovsky», the nearby farms and the sugar factory.

The main feature of the project is the fact that most of the energy produced in the plant will be delivered to the grid according to the tariffs approved by the Regional Energy Commission. It is planned that four megawatts of electricity generated at the station, will go to the grid, and all the capacity beyond that (400 kW) will be used for the power supply of the nearby farms and for the plant’s own needs.

The heat generated at the station, will be used to heat the greenhouses, located on nearby farms, as well as for drying and granulation of organic fertilizers, which are a by-product of the biogas plant.

The construction of the power plant is scheduled for completion by the end of 2014. So far the clearance of the land ownership (8.7 hectares) is being completed, the construction survey have been conducted, the geological survey and the design of the facility are in progress. The cost of construction of the station will amount to 5-7 thousand euro kilowatts. The total amount of investments is 25-30 million euro, they will be provided by «Biogazenergostroy» Corporation both from the company’s own fund and with the involvement of Western funding.

During the construction of the station biogas reactor manufactured by»Corporation» BioGazEnergoStroy «as well as piston engines from leading European manufacturers will be used. The peculiarity of biogas equipment produced by «BioGazEnergoStroy» is that it is suitable for use in the Russian climatic conditions (the station can operate at temperatures from -40 degrees C to + 40) and that it takes into account the peculiarities of the raw materials used to produce electricity.
