Russia will have to make peace with Ukraine in the issue of gas price reconsideration, the ex-head of the press-service of the Naftogaz company Valentin Zamlyansky told the journalists commenting upon the outcomes of the negotiations between Viktor Yanukovich, Vladimir Putin and Dmitriy Medvedev.
“Russia has to make peace with Ukraine because of the slowing down economic activity at the global markets and the threat of another financial crisis. In this situation oil price will fall without any doubt which will lead a decrease in gas prices for Wuropean consumers already bu the end of the next year. In point of fact, time plays into the hands of Ukraine”, — the Kiev-based expert says.
In his opinion, a compromise solution may be the creation of a gas transportation system managing consortium with the participation of Ukraine, the European Union and Russia.
“The economic model which was the subject of the presidents’ negotiations will most likely include the formation of a joint venture or a consortium based on the Ukrainian gas transportation system with the subsequent gas price preferences for Ukraine. The question in only in the politically correct wording if this model, which would allow both presidents to preserve their political rating with the electorate of both countries”, — Zemlyansky forecasts.
