The LUKOIL Overseas company is drilling a deep-water hole in the Gulf of Guinea. The hole depth is about 5.3 meters off the stem dipping, while the depth of water is over 2.4 thousand meters. The drilling is executed by means of the ultramodern semisubmersible drilling rig of the 6th generation Maersk Deliverer.
The CI-205 block with the territory of about 2 thousand square km is situated on the deep marine shelf of the Gulf of Guinea, 100 km off the coast of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire. The depth of the sea within the block boundaries is measured from 1.9 to 3.5 thousand meters. The block is geologically attached to the Tano basin with the proven commercial oil-and-gas content – in particular 15 km off the block the largest oil deposit in Cote d’Ivoire – Baobab has been discovered.
The Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) on CI-205 block was signed in July 2001, LUKOIL entered the project in July 2006. Within the framework of the first geological prospecting stage the whole site of the block was subject to 2D and 3D seismic study.
