NOVATEK, the largest Russian independent gas manufacturer is carrying out a research in the field of creating a unique liquefied natural gas carrier of reinforced ice-class for transporting LNG from Yamal during the whole year, told the journalists the head of the company Leonid Mikhelson.
“At present we are conducting substantial research in the sphere of designing a tanker model which would be suitable for operating in Yamal LNG project during the whole year. There is no such tanker in the world right now. Our objective is to create the tanker hull design which will provide its cost-effective exploitation, to make its tonnage as large as possible and at the same time to preserve commercially suitable speeed, which means — optimal delivery cost of a ton of cagro to the customer”.- he said.
The head of NOVATEK pointed out that the realization of the project has been planned as a part of the state policy of Arctic development.
“The pilot project within the framework of the Executive Order – “Yamal LNG” – is the part of government policy in the field of Arctic development. Therefore at present the whole intellectual potential of the country, its whole scientific-and-technological community are engaged in developing solutions, technologies, experiences within the framework of this pilot project with the aim of their further distribution and implementation for the effective development of Arctic shelf”. — Mikhelson said.
