The Vice Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Igor Shuvalov told the representatives of the mass media that the government tends to consider selling 5.66% of the shares of the Rosneft State Corporation to the British Company BP as a first step in the company’s privatization. In his speech Igor Shuvalov did not exclude the possibility of the privatization process being continued, even in case the price of the subsequent transactions exceeds the cost of privatization.
It should be reminded that earlier Andrei Belousov, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, also declared that British BP entering the capital of Rosneft does not cancel the plans of the government about the further privatization of the state corporation. In his opinion, at present Rosneft is one of the best prepared companies for privatization.
It should be noted that the declarations of the privatization of some share of the batch of Rosneft belonging to the state were many times voiced by the representatives of the government. Thus, in June this year at the governmental sitting, the Prime-Minister of Russia Dmitriy Medvedev called the year of 2016 the deadline for Rosneft to be taken out of the state control. Before that there had been talk about the intentions to give the investors up to 25% of shares of the authorized capital stock before 2015. At the same time it was implied that this year about 15% of shares are to be privatized. Igor Shuvalov, who is supervising the privatization process confirmed the information about the government considering selling the company shares in 2013 and 2014.
