Japan and the Russian leading oil-producing company Rosneft intensified the negotiations on the co-development of the Sea of Okhotsk Shelf, the statement on the website of Magadan Region administration says.
After the destructive earthquake in Japan in March this year the prime-minister of Russia Vladimir Putin suggested that the Japanese companies cope with the energy deficit by taking part in the largest gas projects in the Far East and the Eastern Siberia. Before that Russia used to discuss the development of this region with China but in the spring the relationship of the two countries was overshadowed by the price discussion in relation to the oil exported to China.
According to the administration of Magadan, on Thursday the possibility of the cooperation in the shelf of Okhotsk was discussed by the representatives of the Japanese corporation Marubeni and the local administration.
“We are carrying out negotiating with Rosneft” on the possibility of our participation in the oil and gas production projects in the shelf of the Sea of Okhotsk. In out opinion these projects have nice perspectives in relation to hydrocarbons deliveries to the countries of eastern Asia, considering their geographic proximity”, — the administration of Magadan quotes the head of the Global Strategy and Coordination Department of the corporation Marubeni Yoshiki Miyazaki.
