Rosseti FGC UES has begun upgrading the relay protection at the key substations in Siberia: Altai 1150 kV, Barnaulskaya and Zarya 500 kV. Modern equipment will increase the reliability of power flows between the regions of Western Siberia and, consequently, power supply to consumers in the Novosibirsk Region, Kuzbass, and the Altai Territory with a total population of 7.8 million people. The amount of investments will be 182 mn rubles.
New relay protection and control devices will be installed at the approach lines of the 500 kV Zarya – Altai, Novokuznetskaya – Barnaulskaya and Altai – Barnaulskaya EHV transmission lines that interconnect the power systems of the Altai Territory, Kuzbass, and the Novosibirsk Region. In total, it is planned to mount 23 typical RPC cabinets by the end of 2021.
Most of the new equipment will be installed at the 500 kV Barnaulskaya substation: 11 cabinets. Eight new cabinets will be mounted at the 1150 kV Altai UHV substation and four at the 500 kV Zarya substation.
Microprocessor-based RPC devices will be installed to replace their microelectronic counterparts. The new protection kits are made in Russia and differ from microelectronic equipment by their speed and sensitivity to the minimum values of emergency parameters. In addition, they have built-in self-diagnostic functions, which make them more reliable. Their service life is almost twice as long as that of microelectronic protections (more than 20 years).
The 1002 MVA Barnaulskaya 500 kV substation is the key power center of the Altai Territory. It provides power flows between the Altai, Kemerovo, and Novosibirsk power systems. The 1150 kV Altai UHV substation participates in interstate transit between Russia and Kazakhstan. The 500 kV Zarya substation with an installed capacity of 1602 MVA feeds Novosibirsk, the largest city in Siberia, and the east of the Novosibirsk Region.
