On April 3 2012 the plenipotentiary representatives of Russia and Japan exchanged the notes, which signify rounding up the domestic procedures on the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement on using the nuclear power for peaceful purposes.
The head of the state corporation Rosatom Sergei Kirienko held a press-conference in the capital city of Japan Tokyo, in the course of which he spoke to the journalists about the nuances of this bilateral governmental agreement: “The agreement, on which we exchanged notes with the Foreign Affairs Minister of Japan Koichiro Gemba is to come into force in thirty days. The issues of the nuclear industry development will be solved by each country in the rectification of the consequences of the Fukushima-1 disaster. This is our common problem and we are ready to put all our knowledge and experience into the disposal of the Japanese party”. Kirienko noted that from now on the Japanese nuclear experts can develop the Russian uranium deposits, and there will be a possibility of cooperation in the field of nuclear generation in the “third countries”. The head of Rosatom did not forget to emphasize that the execution of any such projects is directly linked to the specific decisions of the Japanese government and the local companies, which work in the sphere of nuclear power.
It should be reminded here that the agreement on cooperation in the field of the ‘peaceful atom’ was ratified by the Japanese parliament in December 2011, Russia in its turn ratified the agreement, which gad been signed back in 2009, a year earlier, in 2010.
