OAO Tatneft is planning to ‘replicate’ its production of solid metal cord truck tires in Nizhnekamsk. This was declared by the director of the managing company Tatneft-Neftekhim Zagit Sharafeev. According to him, the new production capacities are planned to be placed at the site of OOO Nizhnekamsk Solid Steel Chord Tire Factory which at present produces 2.5-2.7 million combination tires a year.
According to the information from Zagit Sharafeev, at present the Russian market has the same demand for SMC-tires. So far only 10 per cent of the Russian trucks ‘wear’ SMC-tires and the rest of them have combination ones while in the Western Europe this proportion is just the opposite, Mr Sharafeev points out.
It is worth reminding that Tatneft invested about 17 billion rubles into OOO Nizhnekamsk Solid Steel Chord Tire Factory. Its strategic partner is the German company Continental which obligates to monitor the project within 10 years after it has been completed. The factory was commissioned in December 2009. In April 2010 the production of the first serial tires was kick-started. The factory is planning to reach the designed capacity of 1.2 million tires a year in 2013 . A part of the produce is manufactured on the off-take basis with Continental and Matador brands.
The factory is carrying out the negotiations with Continental on increasing the volumes of production under its brand and on the possibilities of creating a joint venture.
OOO Nizhnekamsk Solid Steel Chord Tire Factory was singled out from OAO Nizhnekamskshina and registered as a separate legal body in July 2011.
