On September 12 and 13 the delegation from Ukraine has been in Ashkhabad with the visit the main topic of which is the negotiating concerning the Turkmen gas delivery to Ukraine. Yury Boiko, the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine who accompanies the head if the state in this trip has declared more than once that Kiev is interested in the resumption of gas deliveries from Turkmenistan which were stopped in 2006 because Ashkhabad had sold all its gas production volumes to the Russian concern Gazprom.
“Taking into account the intention of the government of Turkmenistan to differentiate the directions of its gas deliveries, we are willing to discuss these issues, it is very important for us”, — Boiko said on the day before the visit.
The same point was expressed some time before when Rashid Meredov, the vice prime-minister of Turkmenistan was paying a formal visit to Kiev. In the course of the negotiations the Ukrainian prime-minister said to the Turkmen diplomat that the Ukrainian government is willing to go as far as to consider financing the construction of the Caspian-Black Sea gas transportation system which would connect Turkmenistan and Ukraine.
The experts think that in case the agreement with Ashkhabad is reached Kiev will obtain two advantages at once — the opportunity to save money and the alternative to Russian gas.
