The officers of the Police Department of the Adler district of Sochi with the security officers and the employees of the service of electrical transmission lines of the Sochi Electrical Grids – the branch of «Kubanenergo» — detained the suspects in the theft of copper wire from high voltage overhead lines.
From March to July, there were 14 cases of theft of the wires from the overhead transmission lines 110 kV «Krasnopolyanskaya HPP — Sochi thermal power station», «Krasnopolyanskaya HPP — Khosta» and «Khosta — Kudepsta.» Presumably all the crimes were committed by one group of people.

In total, the criminals stole 21 kilometers of copper wire weighing over 12 tons. The amount of damage inflicted to JSC «Kubanenergo» was 7.7 million rubles.

The actions of the criminals repeatedly caused serious failures that resulted in the towns of Adler district being cut off electricity. Restoring power was connected with a number of difficulties, as the damaged power lines are located in remote mountainous areas.

The suspects were arrested in a joint operation of the security of power grids and the Sochi when trying to sell another batch of goods to the point of admission of non-ferrous metals. The investigative activities are continuing at the moment.
