On October 7 and 8 Dmitry Medvedev is to visit Germany. The visit is to take place at the invitation of the President of Germany Christian Wulff.
According to the Kremlin press-service, the head of the state together with the Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, the prime-minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte and the prime-minister of France François Fillon is to take part in the grand opening of the gas pipeline Nord Stream in Lubmin (the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern).
The Nord Stream project is being executed by the Nord Stream AG which is the joint venture of OAO Gazprom (51%), the German concerns BASF and E.On (20 % each) and N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie (9%). The gas pipeline Nord Stream which runs on the bottom of the Baltic Sea will be the first one to ensure the direct delivery of Russian natural gas to Western Europe — from the Russian Vyborg to the German Greifswald. The raw material source for the Nord Stream is Shtokman field.
