Ukraine and Moldova have come to an agreement on cooperation in energy projects with the aim of reducing both countries dependence on natural gas deliveries from the Russian Federation. This information was publicized by Vladimir Filat, the prime-minister of Moldova.
He pointed out that Kiev and Kishinev agreed on complex approach to the cooperation model in the sphere of domestic energy market development and the diversification of energy resources supply. According to him, Ukraine and Moldova are studying the opportunities of joining the Romanian gas system to be able to obtain gas from the independent suppliers within the framework of international energy projects on gas transit from the Caspian region to the European Union.
Filat emphasized that both Ukraine and Moldova have common goals at to energy market development and that both countries are interested in successful execution of projects in the context of the Moldovan and Ukrainian energy systems integration into the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).
It was already reported earlier that Ukraine is planning to increase the volumes of electricity supply to Moldova as well as export it to the EU countries. Mykola Azarov, the Ukrainian prime-minister, noted his country’s interest in increasing electricity supply to Moldova and emphasized the importance of the works completion for the possibility of uniting the Moldovan and Ukrainian energy systems within ENTSO-E.
