A number of bus lines in Yekaterinburg are still using buses with the Euro-0 engines (40 horsepower) and Euro-1 engines (195 horsepower). Such cars are both economically unviable and very harmful for the environment. This was stated during the round-table discussion dedicated to the city transportation problems by the deputy head of the Yekaterinburg administration in charge of urban amenities, transport and environmental protection Evgeniy Lipovich.
But no matter what sophisticated filters the vehicle has this does not help avoid harmful emissions if the vehicle uses an internal or and external combustion engine. This problem practically does not depend on the type of the used fuel, be it gasoline, gas or diesel fuel.
The situation can be changed only by using electrical transport. In particular this refers to electrobuses. They give out less noise and harmful emissions, besides their operation is much cheaper than that of buses with gasoline, diesel and gas engine, because the cost of the electricity is much cheaper than the cost of any of the fuel types listed above.
Summing up the results of the round table, Evgeniy Lipovich emphasized that the administration of the city is stimulating the transition to electrical transport by all means possible. This will not only lead to cutting its operation costs in total but will also enable considerable improvement in the environmental situation of the city. In January the experts were set the task to work out in detail the technical and economical issues of shifting the transportation system to using electrobuses.
“Today we have for the first time seriously discussed the issue of shifting out transportation system to using electrical transport. Of course while developing the ideology of the public pneumowheel transport we should thoroughly study the existing global practices in order to avoid mistakes. Today we have made just the first step in this direction and now the process will only be picking up steam. Already in March we are expecting to adopt the program of upgrading the stock of public pneumowheel transport”, — the deputy head of the city administration pointed out.
