MES South embarked on mounting power transformers on the substation 110 kV Izumrudnaya in Sochi region which is now being under construction. The new substation with the capacity of 80 МVA will provide with electricity the communications facilities and engineering infrastructure intended for servicing the Winter Olympics 2014, the international airport of Sochi as well as the combined rail and automobile road “Adler — mountain climate resort Alpica-Service”.
Power transformers are used to reduce voltage in the grid to the level necessary for energy distribution to the customers. On the substation 110 kV Izumrudnaya two transformers with the total capacity of 80 MVA are to be installed.
The construction of the substation 110 kV Izumrudnaya started in 2010. At present the energy facility undergoes the construction of an outdoor switch-gear 110 kV, the substation control house. By the 2nd quarter of 2012 the substation will have the fully mounted indoor switchgear 10 kV, microprocessor based relays and emergency control systems, automatic process control systems and automatic systems of revenue metering. The power supply of the energy facility will be provided by the substation 220 kV Psou.
